max used to do this to get shells, he loved picking up shells, we even had a bucket in the back yard to throw a shell in for him to get out. when we moved here we put the shell on the first step of the pool. both dogs now will not put their toes or nose in the water.

That is so different. I would have thought he was retrieving his ball!
